Your baby is growing stronger. He already weights about 335 g: this is the equivalent of a grapefruit! His muscles - and thus his movements - are becoming increasingly vigorous. He is making full use of this: moving his arms and legs, turning and doing somersaults. Sometimes he will be pushing his feet against the wall of your uterus, which is why you will sometimes feel a bump on your abdomen. Don't hesitate to caress your baby to show him that you are there!

Your baby's brain development is now accelerating: he already has between 12 and 13 billion nerve cells. He will soon be able to memorise his sensory experiences. Your baby is already sensitive to the food you are eating

His lungs are also maturing: He is making increasingly frequent respiratory movements, but these are still irregular. His pancreas is starting to produce insulin, which allows your baby to use sugar and fat for growth purposes.

My good dietary habits

Your weight gain continues. If you have to watch your weight, opt for lean meat and fish. Ensure that you get enough fibre (fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta and brown rice, etc.) and continue to hydrate yourself sufficiently by drinking at least 1.5 litres of water a day.

Eating a varied and balanced diet is important to benefit from all your food. It also allows your baby to discover new tastes. His sense of smell and taste may be stimulated: don't hesitate to "guide" your baby in his first discoveries. He will soon be able to memorise them.

From the 17th or 18th week of pregnancy onwards, fluoride is an important mineral for the construction of your baby's future milk teeth. Varied nutrition will generally cover these new requirements. Fluoride is found in mineral water, fish and some fruit and vegetables (apples, spinach, etc.). Ask your doctor in the event of doubt.

A question of months: which foods should I eat to relieve heavy legs?

Your tastes will change frequently during the pregnancy. Sometimes pure water will appear most attractive.

  • Add a little lemon juice to your bottle of water for a more pleasant, acidic drink. Why not add some mint leaves, aromatic herbs you enjoy! They will give a pleasant taste to the water without adding any calories.
  • Make up a herbal tea that pleases you! This will hydrate you while still varying the taste.
  • Tea or coffee are still good ways of hydrating you, but as they contain caffeine, they should be consumed in moderation and avoided at the end of the day to ensure good sleep.
  • When it is very hot, a home-made iced tea with mint will stimulate your taste buds and those of your husband.

You are now in your 6th month of pregnancy and are increasingly communicating with your baby. You can feel your baby and he is interacting with the outside world: he is now used to your food preferences.
